Richard Bowes joined L3 MAS in 2005 as Director UAV Systems but deployed later that year to become General Manager of IAMCO, responsible for 2ND and 3RD Line Maintenance of the NATO AWACS fleet. On completion of this assignment in 2010, he resumed his involvement in UAV programs at L3 MAS, working on the Polar Hawk project until 2012 when he was deployed to Australia as L3 MAS Site Manager for the RAAF F/A-18 structural refurbishment program, then he deployed to Kuwait as the L3 MAS Operations Site Manager for the CC-150 Airbus Tanker in support of OP IMPACT. On return to Canada, he enjoyed a short retirement before resuming his role as Director UAS Programs for L3 in support of the RPAS Program.
Prior to joining L3, Richard was the UAV Program Manager for the Canadian Forces Experimentation Centre 2001 – 2005, responsible for Concept Development and Experimentation for a complete range of UAV systems and for conducting live operational testing of systems. The current Canadian Armed Forces UAS program and requirements evolved directly from this early effort.
Prior to joining CFEC, Richard served 37+ years in the RCAF as an Aerospace Engineer, retiring at the rank of Colonel. He was Commandant of the Canadian Forces School of Aerospace Technology and Engineering, Wing Commander 16 Wing Borden and Director Aerospace Equipment Program Management (Maritime). He also served 4 tours of duty with NATO in Europe.
Richard is a graduate of the Royal Military College of Canada, Canadian Forces Command and Staff College and the NATO Defence College.
